A little bit about me
When I work with the sun and the weather to create cyanotypes it feels like magic. Creation is an important part of my life. I love working together with nature to make the artwork you see here. .
One of the most creative times in my life was teaching high school art. I loved being around talented teenagers and learning from them. My time spent working in a bronze foundry and a stained glass studio helped me understand some of the ways artist create and how they work together with teams to bring their art to the public. After having my first child I stopped teaching high school and spent my free time painting, and making and editing art tutorials for a YouTube channel I started with a friend, Mr Otter Art Studio. To my utter surprise, some of those videos have more than 6 million views today. My need to create and not sit in front of a computer editing videos has led me outside to discover the magic of the cyanotype printmaking process. Every time I rinse out a print I am in awe that it worked! I have lost two brothers to addiction and I guess you could say that I am in my blue period. Being outside and creating has really helped me through the the pain of grief. It brings light into my life literally and figuratively.
FAQ
What is a cyanotype?
It is a historical photographic process. First you coat paper with a UV sensitive solution, I hand paint mine on. Then you place objects on the paper, or a negative transparency and expose it to UV light, I use the sun. After it is exposed you rinse off the solution and allow the print to dry.
Do you sell limited editions?
Yes, my limited editions are each numbered and are a unique handmade print, even within the edition. How the solution is painted on, and the exposure and variability of UV light affect the prints.
Where do you ship?
